President Zuma and Ms Ngema get married

20 April 2012

President Jacob Zuma has today, 20 April 2012, married Ms Bongi Ngema at a traditional ceremony known as umgcagco at his home in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal.

The bride and groom later participated in the traditional competitive celebratory dance (ukugqumushela) by the ikhetho (groom's party) led by the groom (President Zuma) and the ithimba (bridal side) led by the bride (Ms Ngema).

A wedding reception will be held this evening, and tomorrow there will be the umabo, where the bride showers the groom's family with gifts.

The President's three wives Mrs Sizakele Zuma, Mrs Nompumelelo Zuma and Mrs Thobeka Zuma attended the event.

The couple have a seven year old son, Sinqumo.

The new Mrs Zuma had already been part of the spousal office machinery in terms of administrative support so there will be no changes due to the wedding.

Enquiries: Mac Maharaj on 079 879 3203.
