President Zuma to open revamped schools in the Eastern Cape

President Jacob Zuma will tomorrow, 02 October 2012, open new schools in the Eastern Cape, as part of government’s Accelerated School Infrastructure Delivery Initiative (ASIDI). The programme is aimed at eradicating the Basic Safety backlogs in schools without water, sanitation and electricity as well as replacing those schools constructed from inappropriate material, including mud schools, to contribute towards levels of optimum learning and teaching. 

The President will also hand over a new house to the Mkile family, one of the destitute families and the beneficiaries of the Eastern Cape Provincial Government’s Human Settlements programme.

Details of the events are as follows:
Hand over of house
Venue: Slovo Park, near uMthatha, King Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipality, Eastern Cape
Schools Launch
Venue: Mphathiswa Primary School, Libode, near uMthatha, Eastern Cape  
Time: 11h00  

The President will be accompanied by the Minister of Basic Education Ms Angie Motshekga, Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Collins Chabane, Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel, the Premier of the Eastern Cape Ms Noxolo Kiviet and the MEC of Education Mr Mandla Makupula.
