Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa arrives in Maseru ahead of the signing of Electoral Pledge by political parties

Maseru - SADC Facilitator and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Maseru today, Wednesday ahead of the scheduled signing of the electoral pledge by Lesotho’s political parties scheduled for Thursday 11 December 2014 at the Lehakoe Recreational and Cultural Centre, Maseru.

The electoral pledge is a commitment by Lesotho’s political parties to help create a climate conducive for the holding of elections scheduled for 28 February 2015 as proclaimed by His Majesty King Letsie III and gazetted on 08 December 2014.

The electoral pledge arises from provisions of the Maseru Facilitation Declaration signed earlier this year by all Lesotho political parties under the aegis of SADC Observer Mission to Lesotho to help return Lesotho to political and security stability.

Following the signing of the electoral pledge, the Facilitator and Deputy President Ramaphosa will hand over the signed copies of the pledge to His Majesty King Letsie III at the Royal Palace.

During his visit, Deputy President Ramaphosa will also participate in the commemoration service of the 42 South African and Lesotho citizens killed in 1982 during a raid by the apartheid defence force on ANC safe houses in Maseru.
